Landfall - Donald Urquart

landfall in stirling
In this major solo project, internationally renowned artist Donald Urquart, brings together his gallery work and public art work, for the first time. Landfall explores the finest details of the contemporary Scottish landscape through paintings, photographs and drawings. This is the artist's first exhibition in Stirling and many of the works are inspired by the local landscape, including the Castle rock and the River Forth.
Events and specially commissioned artworks in other sites also accompany the exhibition at the gallery.
The works in the gallery include a sculptural audio work with sound flooding into the shopping arcade around the entrance to the gallery - relating to the simple act of dropping a boulder into a river from a bridge. Along with this is a sculptural floor piece and a series of wall mounted photographs, drawings and paintings that incorporate the gallery wall through gaps between pieces. This emphasises the partial and fragmentary nature of the depicted subject matter. To coincide with the opening of the exhibition a drawing of a section of the Castle Rock will appear in the Stirling Observer.
